Rules, Information, and Entry Form

Start planning now to enter your culinary masterpiece in the 1st annual 
Gingerbread House Contest!  Round up your family and friends, and spend
some quality time in the kitchen creating a culinary work of art.  Let your
kids explore their creative talents and challenge their imaginations, or take
some time out for yourself this holiday season and build the "house of your
dreams"!

Contest Information

Categories:

Children ages 6 - 11

Teens ages 12-17

Ages 18 and up:

· Adult Individual

· Professional Individual*

*In relation to this contest, a “professional” is defined as any person who is employed as a culinary professional including, chefs, bakers, pastry chefs, etc. The professional category also includes any person who creates gingerbread houses for sale at retail stores, craft fairs, retail web sites, etc.

Entry Fee for all categories is $10.00. Please make checks payable to Murphy's Guest House. All proceeds go to the Bristol Opera House.

A panel of judges will aware 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place ribbons in all categories. A Santa's Choice award will also be presented.

Entries must be delivered to: The Big Red Building, 110 East Vistula Street, downtown Bristol, on Friday, December 5 (from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm) or Saturday, December 6 (from 9 am to Noon)

Entry Removal: Entries can be removed at the close of the event on Saturday, December 6. Houses not picked up by December 8, 2008, will become the property of the Christmas Village Committee.

Entries will be on display at: The Big Red Building, on Saturday, December 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Official Contest Rules

Ø Entries and their foundations shall not exceed 15 inches in width or height.

Ø Foundations must be sturdy for easy transport (cardboard is to flexible, plywood is preferred).

Ø Entries must be made entirely of edible materials with the exception of the foundation.

Ø Entries must be original creations. Do not use store-bought gingerbread houses or gingerbread house kits, please.

Ø Entries must incorporate the holiday or seasonal theme.

Ø One entry per person, please.

Ø Please be aware that points will be deducted from an entry’s overall score for any rule infractions.

Judging Information

· Judging will be based on overall appearance, originality, creativity, holiday or seasonal theme, craftsmanship, architecture, and adherence to the official contest rules.

· Judging will be held on Sat.

· Ribbons will be placed on houses Sat. afternoon.

· The decisions of judges are final.
